From its vision of becoming a missionary, caring and self-reliant Church, Gitarama Presbytery continues to strive for the holistic welfare of the church members. In this regard, many activities have been fulfilled all over Gitarama Presbytery, including the construction of churches, evangelism campaigns, training, choirs’ competition and introduction of youth association known as Presbyterian Youth Ministry (PYM) in all parishes and sub-parishes. Gitarama Presbytery did not put aside initiatives that enhance the socio-economic development of church members. It is in this perspective that many income generating projects are supported and initiated at different levels of the presbytery and vulnerable groups (aged people, orphans and widows, street children, homeless, disabled and hospitalized people) assisted in different ways. This goes with the leading theme of Gitarama Presbytery during this whole 2016 year found in Matthew 5:14 : “you are the light of the World”.
To be the light of the world means to play a role model as disciples of Jesus-Christ in the darkness of this changing world. Gitarama Presbytery Christians have to be aware that our lives are like a lamp which must be put on its stand for giving the light to everyone in the neighborhoods and beyond through our good deeds and way of living according to the Gospel (Matthew 5:14-16).
Let me once again express my sincere gratitude to all of you who read the first Issue of Gitarama Presbytery Newsletters and gave the feedback. Your contribution through constructive comments, encouragements and advices were taken into consideration for strengthening the leadership of Gitarama Presbytery, broadening its activities and enhancing its collaboration with different stakeholders.
Above all, the leadership of Gitarama Presbytery is highly thankful to its partners, both national and international, for their genuine collaboration in building the Kingdom of God in this world.
